Sunday, August 8th, 2010 marks the 26th Annual Marda Gras Street FestivaL. This one-day event takes place in the Marda Loop neighborhood along 33rd and 34th Avenues S.W. east of Crowchild Trail in Calgary, Alberta. It attracts some 30,000 people for a fun-filled and family-friendly event that embraces the culture and cuisine of New Orleans. As a free public event, it depends on sponsorship participation from local and other corporate entities.
Marda Gras Street Festival, with its purple, green and gold pageantry, includes the sights and sounds of New Orleans Jazz, Rhythm & Blues. Street level acts, authentic zydeco music and a variety of cultural performers are featured throughout the day. About 200 vendors, including several of Marda Loop’s unique businesses line the ten blocks of the event, offering choices from Creole and Cajun cuisine to home and gift ideas and outdoor cafes make this a family event for everyone to enjoy.
